Vaals, the Netherlands & Spa, Belgium - 25 March 2007

One Sunday, I joined my Danish friend Helene on a day trip from Maastricht to Vaals in the Netherlands, and then onward to Spa, Belgium.

Perched in the far southeastern corner of the Dutch province of Limburg, Vaals is known as the meeting point of 3 countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Spa, on the other hand, is famous for its natural mineral springs - its name now synonymous with the bottled water brand Spa.

It was a joy to get some fresh air in the countryside and stretch our legs on a few hiking trails. The tranquil landscapes made it a refreshing escape.
