Greece - 22 December 2006 - 2 January 2007

I spent my winter break in Mediterranean Greece hoping to catch a break from the northern cold but it was in vain. Still, during my 11-day Greek odyssey, I soaked in a smorgasbord of Greek culture, history and landscapes that I must say, were truly astounding. Flying into Athens from Amsterdam, I made my way from the airport into the center by train and met up with my travel partner, Rodney. From there, we rented a car and drove north to the hinterland to visit ancient Delphi and majestic Meteora. On the return, we stopped at Thermopile for a brief dip in its hot springs, and then detoured to Corinthian for a quick view of the man-made canal. We then hopped on a plane and cooled our heels in the beautiful and romantic isle of Santorini. By and large, the food was decent and I found the typical Greek person (especially those in the city) to be relatively brash and proud. Overall though, Greece was fascinating for her history, culture and landscapes. Some highlights below (credit goes to Rodney for some of his great shots):
