Antwerp, Belgium - 14 October 2006

Following our visit to Zeeland and the impressive Delta Works earlier that day, our school field trip continued just across the border into Belgium. We made a brief afternoon stop in Antwerp, a historic port city about an hour’s drive from Zeeland, before returning to Maastricht in the evening.

Located along the River Schelde (Scheldt) in northern Belgium, Antwerp is a historic port city known for its medieval guild houses, vibrant fashion scene, and centuries-old diamond trade. It’s also home to Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal (Cathedral of Our Lady), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city is equally renowned for its artisanal Belgian chocolate, a sweet tradition that’s as much a part of Antwerp’s charm as its cathedrals and cobbled streets. I picked up €5 worth of handmade chocolates to take home - small treasures to savor after the trip.
