This morning, we took a bus to the Nice train station and then boarded a train to Antibes, a 20-minute journey by rail. The cost for three round-trip tickets to Antibes and Cannes was €34.20.
Nestled between Nice and Cannes, Antibes is a small coastal town. We wandered along the beach but missed the old town, which might explain why Antibes left little impression on me. Before long, we headed back to the train station and continued on to Cannes, which, as it turned out, wasn’t quite my cup of tea either. With its towering palm trees, the beach district felt reminiscent of Miami, where image and indulgence take center stage. Here, ostentation seemed to reign supreme.
The famed Cannes Film Festival takes place at the Congress Auditorium, though when we arrived, the venue was cordoned off behind steel barricades - perhaps a reminder of its exclusivity.
